The year is 2015 and we are on the far edge of a noisy bar in the heart of Westport.~A striking baker happens to meet eyes with a charismatic store visual designer for the first time.~A lifelong attraction and strong relationship was set in motion that night.~In 10 years' time, a small series of dates turned into a life of love, laughter, a dog named Olive and now, a wedding.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant in Kansas City. If you're looking for delicious food, potent margaritas and the knowledge that you're gaining brownie points from taking our amazing recommendation, this is the place to go. No reservation required!!

El Patron

Ragazza is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Kansas City. Not only are the pasta, desserts and house-made lemoncello absolutely delicious (seriously, the Sunday sauce is definitely something to write home about), they are a LGBTQ-owned business who have continued to promote queer voices in the KC metro for many years.

Located in Kansas City's River Market neighborhood, Il Lazzarone specializes in rustic brick-oven pizzas. They have plenty of options to choose from, and not only that, they have what we deem the best charcuterie board in town. If dining in, we recommend the patio on a nice afternoon/evening or the back bar for a more intimate setting.

The Crossroads boasts a wide array of microbreweries, our favorite among them being Casual Animal. Their taproom is spacious with plenty of natural light and foliage, the perfect atmosphere for an afternoon beer (or two). Speaking of, their rotating beer selection ranges from lagers to IPAs, stouts to sours. There's something for everyone to enjoy, and if you like anything enough, you can grab a 6-pack to go!!

The people are thirsty! Tom's Town is a Kansas City staple. The cocktails are delicious, the space is outstanding (a former candy factory) with art deco from floor to ceiling which really sells the prohibition vibe along with the spirit of Tom Pendergast undoubtedly haunting the building. There's nary a miss on the menu, and you can't go wrong with the classic old fashioned.

If you're looking for a delicious breakfast or something on the go, Messenger is the place to go. The coffee is great, but the pastries are the true star. Ibis bakery creates the flakiest, most decadent treats, from croissants and muffins to kouign amann and financiers, there's something for everyone. And don't get me started on their fresh-baked bread!

PLACES TO VISIT

If you're an art aficionado, we highly recommend checking out the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Admission is free to view the more than 42,000 pieces of art and large outdoor sculptures, including the famous giant shuttlecocks on the lawn. And if you have some extra time, be sure to check out Art Course, an artist-designed nine-hole mini golf course located in the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park. A perfect way to spend your afternoon.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Located just south of Union Station, the National WWI Museum and Memorial house the world's most comprehensive WW1 collection. Explore the many exhibits and travel to the top of Liberty Memorial to get a 360° bird's-eye view of Kansas City.
